Law's Leaving Pulls Plug on Natural Nylon Theatre
After months of speculation, Natural Nylon - the
film and theatre production company co-founded Brit Packers including Jude Law
and Ewan
McGregor - has called it a day, though its backers at the Ambassador Theatre Group
(ATG) still plan to develop stage projects with individual members of the group.
.................
The ATG spokeswoman told Whatsonstage.com that Three
Sisters was still "very much on the cards", with an announcement due
shortly. As for The Collector, it hasn't been ruled out but is looking less likely
with "no immediate progress".
thanks, Nadine!

to Three Sisters??? |
15th July 2002
There seems to have been another change of direction in Natural Nylon's planned production
of Chekhov's The Three Sisters, in a new version adapted by Christopher
Hampton. Welsh director Sean
Mathias, busy of late on Broadway, was originally slated to direct, but rumours this
spring had it that he was being replaced by former Royal Court artistic director and Billy
Elliott star Stephen
Daldry. Now, however, Mathias is reportedly back on board and bringing some cast
members with him. Kate (daughter of Richard) Burton, who was Tony-nominated this year for
her role in Mathias' New York revival of The Elephant Man, is likely to feature
along with Rufus
Sewell, the British screen star whose stage credits have included Luther and Arcadia
at the National and Macbeth in the West End. The Three Sisters is expected
toat the Young Vic next spring. Meanwhile, Mathias' acclaimed Broadway revival of
Strindberg's The Dance of Death, led by Ian
McKellen, has been mooted for a West End transfer.

Sam Mendes's forthcoming Donmar production of Uncle Vanya, with Emily Watson and Helen
McCrory, isn't the only Chekhov revival of note poised for London stages this autumn. Now
comes word that Sean Mathias, the Welsh director who had two productions on Broadway this
past season, is returning to London in October to direct The Three Sisters. Though Ewan
McGregor had originally been mentioned to head the cast, it now looks like his place may
be taken by Rufus Sewell. Kate Burton (daughter of Richard and an alumna
of Mathias's New York revival of The Elephant Man) is among those likely to join him.
